Musical Reference and names related to the Dagarvani style of Dhrupad (indian classical singing and instrumental tradition of North India).
Dhrupad is the oldest living tradition of indian Classical Singing.
As a model of poetic composition its birth can be traced to the 15th Century. As a complete and syncretic formulation of sophisticated spiritual-musical technology it has more to do with a reformulation of the tradition (including vedic, tantrik and sufi traditions) made mostly by the figure of Baba Bheram Khan (Dagar family ancestor). In that case, it's expression is more form the 19th century. Regarding the origin of the shastric and practical basis for this artform it goes back to the later expression of Sama vedic and yajurvedic cantilation and singing and it is also heavily charged with the tantrik tradition concerning the Nada, Om or Vak as the ultimate goddess.
